Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
